  • Somehow, not only for Christmas

But all the long year through,

The joy that you give to others

Is the joy that comes back to you.

And the more you spend in blessing

The poor and lonely and sad,

The more of your heart's possessing

    Returns to you glad.

    Woodrow Exhibit at Mendell

  • The bad news is I never got to visit the Woodrow art exhibit while in Halifax. But the good news is that it's now in Saskatoon at the Mendel until January 6th!
"Nine large sculptural works incorporating video and animatronic elements, and a video by the artist reflect the key elements that define small town life: a farmhouse, a barn, grain bins, a workshop, the church, the hockey rink, the grain elevator, and finally, the road into (and out of) town. The run-down buildings are inhabited by a series of re-animated “ghosts” that harken back to the histories of the sites and their importance to Patterson’s family (the show is a tribute to his inventor grandfather). Through his use of stop-motion animation and robotic figures, Patterson infuses new life into what at first glance is a dead town." - Mendel

If you haven't already, stop by the Mendel and checkout this nationally recognized work by the young Saskatchewan artist, Graeme Patterson.

Lululemon and MEC Pull Bottles With Bisphenol From Shelves

  • Awhile back I blogged about the dangers of bisphenol. Well Lululemon and MEC have both made steps in right direction, pulling plastic bottles with bisphenol from their shelves:
"Earlier this month, Health Canada officials said while no recall notice has been issued for the bottles they are conducting an assessment of bisphenol A as part of the federal government's chemicals management plan. A preliminary report is expected in the spring.
Lululemon was congratulated by Environmental Defence for its decision Tuesday. The Toronto-based environmental group said it expects other large Canadian retailers to follow suit soon.
Mountain Equipment Co-op made the decision earlier this month to pull most food and drink containers that used the chemical from its shelves. " - Canada.com
Many products we use everyday contain harmful cancer causing chemicals, yet manufacturers remain silent about their potential dangers. There are two ways to change this. One, being a consumer, you can choose not to buy these products. And two, retailers can take action pulling these harmful products from their shelves.

From a business perspective it also makes a lot of sense; they are avoiding possible lawsuits down the road and they also build customer trust by looking out for the shoppers best interest. Hopefully other large retailers follow their lead...

  • People often ask me what software development is like. It requires the skills from many other disciplines, high level design of an architect, understanding of complex machines of an engineer, the problem solving skills of mathematician and keen eye of good layout of an interior designer. But unlike other professions, the requirements are constantly changing through the entire process and your system you are designing is often being used as you are actually building it.

This video captures perfectly what software development is!

  • Garage Inventor Finds Way To Burn Salt Water, Potential Alternative To Gasoline For Fuel

    0
  • This is pretty incredible, a garage inventor originally seeking cure for cancer, discovers that the radio frequency generator he created to kill cancer cells, also causes salt water to ignite, releasing the hydrogen energy.

In the video, the inventor John Kanzius shows that plain salt water when ignited has potential to power a simple motor. You can read more about John's invention and salt water energy on the Wikipedia page.
